Russell Ooms has made his living as a custom woodworker and cabinetmaker for over thirty years and has been handcrafting cutting boards since 1984. The genesis of his design came from his love of using recycled materials in his craft. He saves the cutoffs from his commissioned pieces and combines them with found wood to bring a second and, sometimes, third or fourth, life and use to the original tree. “I like bypassing my ego to allow what sunshine created to reflect light into our world,” says Russell. Each piece is branded with his distinctive signature and is a functional work of art.
Russell lives and works in the historic Chinese Delta town of Locke, California. His designs are also showcased at The Gardener in Berkeley, California and Upstairs at Pierre Lafond in Santa Barbara, California.
